WATCH: Dredger sand finally floods onto Alkantstrand

The soil-starved Richards Bay beach has been in dire need of sand replenishment over the past few years.

THERE was plenty of rejoicing this morning at the sight of the dredger pipeline spewing forth a fountain of sand onto the beach north of Alkantstrand.

The soil-starved Blue Flag beach has been in dire need of sand replenishment over the past few years as tidal surges have eaten away the dune barrier and scoured the beach.

The dredge spoil is collected by the super dredger Isandlwana at the sand trap off the South Pier and pumped from the T-jetty via the new pipeline.
