Man shot in head on busy Richards Bay street

Motorist critically wounded in bloody confrontation in Alumina Allee this afternoon.

POLICE are putting together the pieces after a driver was shot in Alumina Allee – the busiest street in Alton, this afternoon.

According to witnesses, two vehicles had been parked in a lay-by.

One was a GP-registered silver Kia Cerato with ‘5 or 6 occupants’ and the other a blue Toyota Corolla or Tazz with a single occupant.

‘The guy from the Toyota got out and fired a number of shots at the other driver, who sped off to try and escape but crashed into a light pole on the opposite side of the street due to his injuries,’ said one of the witnesses.

‘The Toyota guy drove after them, stopped and fired again before leaving the scene.

‘All the Kia occupants except the driver ran away.’

Police later ascertained that nine shots had been fired in the initial confrontation.

The driver in the Kia was struck in the head, chest and wrist and was critically wounded.

Reports that the shooter handed himself over at the Richards Bay Police Station are not confirmed.
