Cancer Support Trust receives cash injection

Richards Bay biking community rally funds to support the Cancer Support Trust.

LOCAL bikers helped raise over R10 000 for the Cancer Support Trust last week during the No Rules KZN MCC cancer fund-raising run in Richards Bay.

The generous donation was handed over on Thursday, the start of Breast Cancer Awareness month and will be used to acquire accommodation facilities for patients undergoing cancer treatment in Richards Bay.

Welcoming the generous contribution, leading South African oncologist Professor Amo Jordaan thanked No Rules KZN MCC for their support and said although there is modern equipment and the best chemotherapy and radiology treatments, there is still a need for proper accommodation for patients who travel from far.

‘We see patients come from Northern KZN and even Mpumalanga, they sometimes have long radiotherapy session and need accommodation facilities.

‘While there are bed and breakfast establishments, not everyone can afford it, and we are pleased to have the locals’ support in acquiring accommodation facilities for the patients,’ said Jordaan.

Meanwhile, Carin Pretorius of No Rules KZN said local motorcycle clubs came out in full support and over 150 people joined in the cancer run.

‘We had 80 bikers participate and this is not the last of our contributions, we will continue to encourage local community members and businesses to donate to this project,’ said Pretorius.
