UPDATE: Young cancer victim survives surgery

Surgeons had to remove one of the 10-month-old infant's kidneys.

AFTER undergoing an operation to remove a kidney tumour, 10-month-old Richards Bay cancer victim Le’monte Kade Hughes is well on his way to recovery.

Despite surgeons having to remove one of his kidneys, the operation at Parklands Hospital went smoothly.

Le’monte was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a childhood cancer of the adrenal gland.

He will be returning to the hospital on Wednesday, 21 October to have the port for his chemotherapy inputted, as he has four more sessions to go.

He is receiving six cycles of chemotherapy every three weeks.

‘We would like to thank all the people and businesses who generously donated money,’ said Sandy Burgess of The Firefly Foundation, who initiated the fund-raising project.

‘Without them, this would not have been possible.’

The family is still appealing to the community for help, as there are hospital bills to be paid and travelling costs back to Durban.

‘Thank you for all your prayers as we travel this road with this precious family.’

If you are able to contribute, contact Sandy on 073 2146555.
