Enter the Sodwana shoot-out

The annual iSimangaliso Sodwana Bay Shootout Festival will run from 5 - 10 October.

IT is that time of year again when nature lovers and photographers, both experienced and novices, make their way to Sodwana Bay for the annual iSimangaliso Sodwana Bay Shoot-out Festival.

Now in its 16th year, the popular photographic competition will run all week (5 – 10 October) and is open to photographers of all levels of expertise.

Originally an underwater competition, the land category was introduced two years ago, giving landlubbers the chance to put their creativity to the test.

Terrestrial photographs may be taken anywhere within the iSimangaliso Wetland Park during the week but registration must be done in person at Sodwana Bay.

Registered entrants could be in line to win prizes such as R80 000 worth of Nauticam underwater camera equipment from Dive Action Cape Town, dive packages, dive equipment, accommodation packages, a magazine portfolio spread and apparel.

The six-day family event includes an array of marine conservation and photographic presentations in the evenings, talks by Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife and Sharklife among others, as well as live music from a variety of bands and singers.

A portion of the entrance fee goes towards the park’s Rare and Endangered Species Fund.
