Inkanyezi Care Centre feeds the poor

The centre also provides orphans and children from poor families with breakfast and afternoon meals, each time they go to and from school.

THEY came with wheelbarrows and loaded food parcels, smiling all the way home.

This is Inkanyezi’s mission – to improve the lives of the poor people of Madlankala, Ward 12 of uMhlathuze Municipality.

On Tuesday afternoon the centre was a hive of activity as hundreds gathered to collect their monthly rations.

Speaking to the Zululand Observer, Centre Manager MK Mpanza said, ‘Through the funding we receive from the Department of Social Development each month, we buy food such as rice, mealie meal, flour, sugar, beans, potatoes, tinned fish and washing powder to donate to the poor.

‘The community care givers (CCGs) working within our ward identify struggling families from their areas to receive food donations.

‘We usually feed each family for a period of three months, while giving them a chance to find other means of putting food onto their tables, or while they are looking for a job.

‘After three months, we remove them from the list, and add another needy family. It is the CCGs prerogative to re-register the said family onto the needy families’ list, in case they still haven’t found work, or other means to provide for themselves.’

The centre also provides orphans and children from poor families with breakfast and afternoon meals, each time they go to and from school.

According to Mpanza, at the beginning of the school year they buy school uniforms for the school children from poor backgrounds.
