ATM robbers strike in Empangeni

The ATM robbers made a clean getaway with an undisclosed amount of cash.

TWO Standard Bank ATM’s on Tanner Road, Empangeni were cut open and emptied of cash after robbers struck in the early hours this morning.

According to witnesses on scene, an unknown number of men tied up a security guard inside a room of an adjacent building.

The suspects then climbed through the roof of the building, gaining access to the vault behind the ATM’s. They then apparently cut open the money boxes with a portable grinder.

The security guard was not harmed.

The exact amount that was taken is unclear at this stage, and no description of the suspects is available.
