Mozambique holiday trip nightmare

Six people en route to Mozambique were hijacked near Manguzi.

SIX people who were hijacked and taken by armed gunmen at 6.30am on Thursday morning near Manguzi, have been found unharmed.

According to a KZN police spokesperson, Major Thulani Zwane, five armed suspects hijacked the holidaymakers who were en route to Mozambique, taking their vehicles with them still inside.

‘The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) was activated along the border, while SAPS and Tracker undertook a search of the area,’ he said.

The victims were found at around 1pm after locals found them in the bushes and took them to the Manguzi Police Station.

‘The borderline was sealed off by SANDF forces while the search for the vehicles continued,’ said Zwane.

Despite these efforts, the vehicles had not been recovered by the time of going to print.

‘A case of hijacking and kidnapping is being investigated and we urge anyone who has information to contact our Crime Stop number on 08600 10111.’

A man close to the operation who did not wish to be named, said it was one of the finest examples of cooperation between SANDF troops, police and the private tracking company, he had seen.
