Sharp cops recover illegal weapons

Police operation results in recovery of weapons and two arrests

TWO suspects appeared in the KwaMsane Magistrate’s Court last Wednesday after being arrested in possession of unlicenced firearms and ammunition.

This followed a joint intelligence-driven operation conducted by the North Region Crime Intelligence Task Team and National Mobile Train Unit Durban at Mkhanyakude Cluster, Ophondweni Reserve.

Aged 27 and 45, the suspects were found with two 9mm pistols and 11 live rounds of 9mm ammunition, as well as one shotgun rifle with two live rounds.

Serial numbers had been removed on the weapons, which were booked into the KwaMsane exhibit register.

All three firearms will be forwarded to ballistics for examination and to establish if they have been used to commit crimes such as taxi violence, faction fighting, poaching and robberies.
