Navy to display anti-piracy combat skills

The SA Navy Maritime Reaction Squadron will conduct a search, board and seizure exercise on a offshore patrol vessel as part of a maritime exercise at the Small Craft Harbour tomorrow morning

A SPECTACULAR maritime and air capability demonstration will be conducted at the Richards Bay Small Craft Harbour tomorrow morning at 10am.

The demonstration will be a simulation of how South African and French military forces will work together to counter piracy at sea with a mock pirate attack on a ‘passenger liner’ followed by maritime interdiction operations.

Military ‘assets’ will include the South African Navy marines and divers, South African Special Forces, South African Air Force Oryx helicopter and C47 maritime surveillance aircraft, French CASA CN 235 aircraft, a Panther helicopter and a parachute group.

The SA Navy offshore patrol vessel, SAS Isaac Dyobha, will simulate the passenger liner.
