Five reasons to celebrate Heritage Day

Heritage Day showcases us as South Africans in our element. Here are five reasons to celebrate this national holiday.

Why we love Heritage Day:

Heritage Day was declared a national holiday during the late Nelson Mandela’s presidential term to ensure that nation building happened not only in government but between neighbours, family and friends. Food is also a big part of many of our cultures. As you celebrate your Heritage Day with either family or friends, let Checkers take care of the grub in true South African style, from the boerewors to the sundowner.

Rugby matches to look forward to:

Nothing brings the country together like watching the Springboks around a Saturday afternoon braai. Whether you stay in Ladysmith or the Lowveld, rallying behind the national rugby team has become a pastime for many of us. With the Rugby World Cup coming up, make sure that you’re donning the green and gold and that you’re all stocked up on your braai supplies.
