BEACHGOERS are urged to be extra cautious of the new moon spring tide which peaked on Sunday and could cause stronger than normal rip currents along the coast.
The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) is urging extreme caution as very strong rip currents are expected to occur over the next eight days. Bathers and shoreline anglers are most at risk.
Spring tides happens twice every month, once at full moon and again at new moon.
