Community champion fights for suburb’s development

Service delivery, a top priority for Aquadene Ward Committee member.

AQUADENE ward committee member Sheilla Dunn is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to championing the concerns of her community.

Elected to the committee four years ago, the energetic 61-year-old has taken her duties to find solutions to issues affecting the suburb’s residents, extremely seriously.

She is on call day and night and is always ready to help regardless of the situation.

Dunn believes that her health is her biggest asset, so it is a priority to keep fit. She says this is ultimately what ensures she has the momentum to execute her work with ease.

‘I have been a resident of this ward for over 25 years and I was determined to ‘walk the talk’ and see that our local municipality makes a difference in our suburb.

‘Despite the challenges we often encounter with lack of funding or budgets, we are still the voice of our residents and have to continue to take forward their petitions and concerns.

‘We have to be bold and take a stand to see growth in our area and we have noted significant improvements thus far.

‘We have seen revamps done at the community clinic, new walkways built at the postbox, community hall and clinic and numerous speed humps to deter speeding and reckless driving.

‘The construction of the new community library and the multi-purpose sport court facility sponsored by SuperSport’s Let’s Play initiative, have been some of the biggest highlights this year.

‘There has been numerous meetings on the new housing development and residents are patiently waiting for the kick-off ,’ she said.
