Almost ‘taken out’ by blue-light brigade

Empangeni woman narrowly avoided an accident on the John Ross Highway.

EMPANGENI resident Lynette Gouge (48) has told the Zululand Observer of an incident on the John Ross Highway last Thursday afternoon, where she was nearly ‘taken out’ by a blue-light brigade.

Gouge described how she narrowly avoided an accident after two blue light vehicles sped across the highway to attend a function being hosted in a tent where the new hospital will be built.

‘I was travelling home to Empangeni at around 16.15pm,’ she said.

‘As myself and a few other cars were approaching the intersection at the new garage, the two big, black SUVs sped across the intersection right in front of us.’

According to Gouge all three lanes were occupied at the time, and all the drivers were forced to take avoiding action.

She was forced to swerve into the turn-off area at the garage to avoid hitting the car in front of her.

The two blue-light vehicles proceeded over the highway and onto the access road that will lead to the new hospital.

‘Two of the cars actually did collide, fortunately the damages were minor.’

‘People should be careful if they see these brigades on the move. Apparently, they could do anything!’
