BAY pedestrians should hold onto their handbags extra tightly.
A scooter thief is on the prowl, snatching handbags on the go.
This was the warning from Richards Bay police who are investigating three cases of theft by the brazen rider in Arboretum over the past month.
‘In the latest incident, a woman said she was walking near the John Ross College when a person wearing a helmet on a lime coloured scooter drove into her and attempted to grab her bag,’ said police spokesperson Captain Debbie Ferreira.
‘However, the strap was secured over her shoulder and she was dragged behind the scooter until she managed to free herself from the entanglement.
‘This occurred last Thursday. The victim had to be taken to the clinic to clean up her wounds.
‘We urge members of the public to be vigilant when walking along the road.’
