More relief for motorists, but are tough times looming?

THE Department of Energy has announced that all grades of fuel will drop by 69c a litre next week Wednesday.

This is definitely a reason to celebrate, but the AA has said the ‘underlying  fundamentals’ pose a threat to motorists, and we  should all brace for the effect  of dropping oil prices on the rand’s  weakness.

The September decrease will mean 95 unleaded will cost R12.57  in Gauteng  and R12.14 at the coast, while 93 unleaded will be  priced at R12.93 in Gauteng  and R12.06 at the coast.

93 LRP drops to R12.32 in Gauteng and 95 LRP will be R12.14 at  the coast.

Diesel meanwhile will drop by 54c and 51c for 0.05% and 0.005% sulphur respectively.

LPG will decrease by 115c/kg.

International petrol prices have reached a six-year low, but the AA remains concerned over what will happen when oil prices eventually bottom out.
