Two die in Winkelspruit plane crash

Authorities are combing the scene of a plane crash on the South Coast.

TWO men were killed after their light aircraft crashed into a field next to the N2 near the Winkelspruit offramp this afternoon.

Rescue Care Paramedics as well as SAPS Search and Rescue members were called out to the fiery scene just after 2pm today.

‘On arrival they found that a light aircraft had crashed just next to the freeway and was well alight. Durban Fire Department were on scene and busy dealing with the fire,’ said Garrith Jamieson, Operations Director at Rescue Care.

Jamieson added, paramedics stood by until the area was made safe to enter.

The occupants suffered extensive injuries and were declared dead on the scene.

‘At this stage it is unclear what led up to the crash however all the necessary authorities are on the scene and will be investigating further,’ said Jamieson.
