UPDATE: Clampdown on school violence

In an attempt to bring school violence under control, KwaMsane SAPS arrested 4 high school pupils in Mtubatuba for carrying dangerous weapons.

FOLLOWING the recent fatal stabbing at Qakwini High School, and an increase in violence at schools, KwaMsane SAPS has launched an operation to clamp down on school violence.

Already successful, the operation last week yielded the arrest of four high school pupils from the Mtubatuba area.

Police officers without warning visited Nkombose and Nkodiba high schools last Wednesday, where all classrooms were searched for drugs and dangerous weapons. One pupil from Nkombose High and three from Nkodiba High were arrested and charged with possession of dangerous weapons.

Three of the four were carrying knives and one was carrying a bush knife.

The pupils, all aged between 17 and 19, appeared at the KwaMsane Magistrate’s Court on Thursday and were released into their parents’ custody with a warning. Should they fail to heed the warning, they will be dealt with more severely.
