Community group drives road safety project

Job seeker starts project to promote road safety.

HAVING completed a three-year traffic management qualification but unable to find employment, eNseleni resident Eric Magubane has started a non-profit organisation to promote traffic education.

Vika and Vikela Traffic Education Project was established earlier this year and focuses on creating road safety awareness at schools, businesses and public events.

In 2011 Magubane’s sister was left disabled after being involved in a car accident and this motivated him to go into the community and highlight the dangers and of disobeying the rules of the road.

‘The statistics of road accidents and fatalities are alarming.

‘Even though we have law enforcement and our roads are being upgraded, there is still no focus on the human contribution. Our motorists must be educated on safe driving practices and the vital role they play in ensuring the number of accidents is reduced.

‘I do not want my skills to go to waste and I am appealing to schools, community groups and businesses to invite us to do presentations and workshops to promote safety and help eliminate road deaths or injuries,’ said Magubane.

He can be contacted on 081 8331108 or via e-mail on Sibo.Magubane@gmail.com.
