Teen stabbed to death at Mtuba school

A 19-year-old pupil at Qakwini High was stabbed in the chest during a lunch time brawl.

A PUPIL at Qakwini High School in the Mfekayi area near Mtubatuba was fatally stabbed by a fellow pupil on Friday afternoon.

Witnesses told police that Tholinslansla Mathenjwa (19) and the suspect, who cannot be named as he is a juvenile, became involved in an argument at lunch time on the school premises.

The argument became heated and resulted in the suspect pulling out a knife and stabbing Mathenjwa in the chest. He died on scene.

The murder weapon was seized, the suspect arrested, charged with murder and detained at the Mtubatuba Police Station prison cells.

He is due to appear at the Mtubatuba Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (Monday).

Qakwini High School came under the spotlight earlier this year when community members called for the dismissal of the school’s principal.

They alleged the then principal turned away prospective pupils from the Qakwini community in favour of children from other areas, that parents were unaware of his appointment as principal, and that he did not let the community make use of the school hall.

To date, Qakwini High School does not have a principal.
