Tavern owner cares for the orphans

Business owner Hlengiwe Ntanzi is making a difference through her organisation 'Vuyahle 547 Foundation'.

SERVING the community has always been on top of eSikhaleni philanthropist Hlengiwe Ntanzi’s priority list.

The 49-year-old tavern owner has a warm heart.

She is a motivational speaker, caregiver to many orphans and a mother to disadvantaged children.

Through her organisation Vuyahle 547 Foundation, she provides school uniforms to disadvantaged children annually and motivates young girls to use education as a tool to secure a bright future.

She started out as a cashier in an Empangeni supermarket before she opened her thriving business. She uses most of her profit to fund the foundation and making a difference in the community.

‘I started the uniform programme to ensure all children look the same in school. There must be no difference between pupils. They must all be on the same level regardless of their background.

‘It eliminates the high number of dropouts. It makes it easier for them to concentrate on their schoolwork because they won’t be teased by others.

‘It is everyone’s duty to ensure all children get the education they deserve. They must be equipped with the tools to prosper,’ she said.

Ntanzi is also passionate about empowering young women. She presents an annual seminar to mentor young girls.

‘Young women must know that education is important. Girls should stop relying on men for support, but focus on their schoolwork.

This will ensure they can provide themselves with a brighter future. This will eliminate teenage pregnancy and the spread of sexual transmitted infections (STI’s).’

She also supports various sporting activities, including her own soccer team.

‘When young people have something to do after school, they stay away from alcohol and drug abuse. They develop a positive mindset and focus on their dreams. Young people need our guidance.’
