Six South African women who inspire

In celebration of Women’s Day, we’ve rounded up six of SA’s most successful women.

1. Khanyi Dhlomo

Khanyi Dhlomo is one of SA’s most successful media personalities, having made her TV debut on the SABC 1 evening news bulletin at the tender age of 20. She went on to turn around the fortunes of True Love magazine and found Ndalo Luxury Ventures, the holding company of the chain of the high-end Luminance stores.

2. Lindiwe Mazibuko

Before heading abroad to complete her MBA at Harvard, Mazibuko was the Parliamentary Leader for the opposition Democratic Alliance (DA). Before taking up her post in parliament, Mazibuko was also National Spokesperson as well as Shadow Minister for Rural Development and Land Reform.

3. Basetsana Kumalo

A former Miss South Africa winner, Basetsana Kumalo is perhaps most well-known for being the face of Top Billing and Revlon ambassador. She now sits on the boards of five companies and acts as brand ambassador for numerous South African companies.

4. Nkhensani Nkosi

The Stoned Cherrie fashion brand shot to prominence in the early 2000s, under the direction of founder and TV personality Nkhensani Nkosi. Nkosi is also well-known for being one of the judges on Coca Cola Popstars and has given speeches at numerous events and conferences.

5. Leanne Manas

Manas’s background lies in radio, where she anchored news broadcasts at 702 and Classic FM. As a seasoned business journalist, she then hosted Business Focus and Business Update on SABC3 before joining the Morning Live team, where she has been gracing our screens ever since. Manas is an ambassador to a number of charities, including 46664, Child Welfare and the Topsy Foundation.

6. Rapelang Rabana

Twenty-nine-year-old Rabana is the mind behind ReKindle Learning, an e-learning company that uses short, snackable bits of information to improve knowledge uptake. The ICT entrepreneur is also a founding partner of Yeigo Communications, a mobile phone VoIP company.
