St Catherine’s wins R21 000 in Mandela Day challenge
Empangeni school crowned one of the winners in national Mandela Day competition.
SCHOOLS nationwide were encouraged to participate in the 67 blankets for Madiba challenge, and out of hundreds of entries Empangeni’s St Catherine’s School was selected as one of the winners.
Successfully knitting 21 blankets, St Catherine’s walked away with a prize of R21 000 and their efforts have contributed to the campaign’s record-breaking event entry in the Guinness World Record book.
Aimed at providing warm blankets to those in need during the winter months, the initiative has GONE global, with Zululander’s playing a major role.
The campaign does not accept monetary donations, but rely solely on the sponsorship of wool.
