Mtuba women challenge municipality

The Mtubatuba Women's Institute has issued a challenge to the town's mayor.

FED up with the poor state of cleanliness in Mtubatuba, the women’s institute has issued a challenge to Mayor Nyawu and his town council.

‘The road through Mtubatuba is a disgrace, with litter, old car parts, animal pens, leaking sewerage pipes and water wastage next to the Mtuba Christian Academy,’ said Mrs Thompson, President of the Mtuba Women’s Institute.

Mtubatuba has made headlines many times in recent years, in connection with these issues, which residents feel are never-ending.

After the Mtuba Clean Town Summit in 2012, the then council pledged to take certain steps to clean up Mtubatuba.

Such steps, including extra refuse removal trucks and a department dedicated to keeping the town clean, do not appear to have materialised while the state of decay worsens.

‘Is this what we wish tourists to see as they enter one of our best tourism areas?’ asked Thompson.

Neither Mayor Nyawo nor the municipal spokesperson could be reached for comment.
