UPDATE: ‘Run away’ boy in pursuit of his mother

Can you help Innocent Dlamini find his mother.

A YOUNG boy roaming the city streets and braving the elements in search of his lost mother, has found temporary refuge until his mother can be traced.

Innocent Dlamini (14) was found soaking wet in the terrible weather conditions in Richards Bay at the weekend.

When approached by police, he said he was looking for his mother Busi Dlamini (42), who left their Piet Retief home in December last year.

He said he has been struggling financially and was seeking assistance from his mother, who he claimed worked at a local fast food outlet.

Police intervened and immediately conducted a search, but to no avail.

‘I came to Richards Bay because my brother and I don’t have any money at home. Sometimes I can’t even go to school. My mother hasn’t sent us any money for months now. That’s why I decided to come and look for her,’ he said.

Innocent spent several cold winter nights on the police station’s benches.

On Tuesday, he was found stranded on the street by a Richards Bay resident who brought him to the Zululand Observer offices in Richards Bay.

The police and Mzingazi Community Policing Forum (CPF) Chairperson Sharon Mdletshe were contacted.

The boy broke down and confessed to Mdletshe he had run away from home.

‘He claims he is being abused by his aunt and decided to come to Richards Bay thinking he could easily find his mother. I have tried to contact his school in Piet Retief, but to no avail. I will try and find a place for him at a Brackenham orphanage until his mother is found,’ said Mdletshe.

Police are still searching for his mother.
