SA Weather Service warns of heavy rains for KZN

KwaDukuza Municipality has issued guidelines and emergency contact info in case of disaster situations

THE South African Weather Service has predicted heavy rain over the weekend for many areas of KZN.

In lieu of this warning, KwaDukuza Municipality has issued a statement providing guidelines for residents to follow in case of emergencies within the jurisdiction of the municipality:

  • Power outages should be expected over the weekend. For general enquiries in this regard, please call 032 551 3413
  • Electricity poles and cables may be blown over by heavy winds. If they are down, they must be treated as live cables and should NOT be touched. Such incidents must be immediately reported to the Emergency Services Call Centre on 032 946 2711
  • Parents should look after their children and must not let them play in the streams, as they could be washed away.
  • People crossing rivers and streams should do so with caution, as heavy rains may cause sudden swells
  • In case of any disaster situation, residents are urged to report it to their Ward Councillor or Ward Committee, or alternatively to the Emergency Services Call centre on 032 946 2711

All residents are urged to be cautious while travelling and to remain in doors if flooding does occur.
