Facebook ‘name and shame’ campaign for water wasters

Irate residents take a bold stand against water wasters in the City

A NEW Facebook page called ‘Water Wastage Zululand has been created, with the sole purpose of naming and shaming water wasters in the City of uMhlathuze.

Water restrictions have been implemented in Zululand. Looming water cuts hang over our heads as feeder dams run dry! Name and shame those that don’t care!’ reads the ‘About’ section on the page, which has garnered more than 50 ‘Likes’ already.

Some posts on the page are alluding to a community based team to tackle ‘water wasters’ and to ensure they are reported.

City spokesperson Mdu Ncalane confirmed there were no bylaws governing water wastage, but strongly discouraged reckless water usage.
