KZN Premier staff member gunned down

A 34-year-old man believed to be a staff member in the Office of the KZN premier, has been shot and killed.

A MAN believed to be a staff member in the Office of KZN Premier, Senzo Mchunu, was gunned down near Empangeni on Friday night.

According to KZN police spokesperson, Major Thulani Zwane, the 34-year-old was shot multiple times in the left and right side of his body at Dumisani Makhaye Village.

‘Police officers arrived on scene to find the man being attended to by paramedics. However, he was declared dead on the scene at around 8.30pm,’ said Zwane.

‘An unknown number of suspects fled the scene.’

Spokesperson for the Premier, Thami Ngwena was unable to shed more light on the incident when contacted for comment on Saturday but confirmed that he ‘knew the man only as a staff member’.

A case of murder is being investigated by Empangeni SAPS.
