Obuka community takes a stand

Ntambanana youth step up to fight rhino poaching and promote conservation

THE Obuka community in Ntambanana have decided to take a stand against pressing issues facing the community.

Chairperson of the Vuna-Obutshalie Project committee, Jacob Biyela, believes the escalation of theft on farms and nature reserves are as a result of drug abuse and feels something needs to be done about it.

Various projects have been created to address issues such as rhino poaching, nature conservation and the fight against drug teens.

The Siyaqoba Youth Project was launched by community members in an attempt to fight drug abuse within the society.

‘We know that the fight against crime cannot be won overnight, but at least we can do something to reduce it,’ says Biyela.

Another priority is educating the youth about nature conservation.

They would like to thank iNkosi Biyela at Obuka, Thula-Thula Game Reserve, the Ntambanana Municipality as well as various farmers who have contributed to their projects.
