ANCYL requests special provincial funeral for Mashaba
Call to honour Mashaba's legacy
The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) in KwaZulu-Natal has written to KZN Premier Senzo Mchunu to implore him to declare an official provincial funeral for deceased uThungulu Deputy Mayor, Thulani Mashaba.
According to the rules governing this practice, a special provincial official funeral can be requested by the Premier of that province for an exceptional citizen who in the eyes of the Premier is deserving of such recognition.
The motivation read: ‘As a former leader of the ANCYL, Mashaba led the African National Congress with distinction and he was the embodiment of youth development.
‘Not only was he a leader of the African National Congress, but also led the people of uThungulu District Municipality with great humility befitting of the confidence placed in him by the ANC.
‘The ANCYL believes that Mashaba deserves to be accorded this form of recognition by the people of the province he served until his last days, the people he committed his youthfulness and his entire adult life towards their emancipation.’
