Dancing her way to the top

Local lass is following her dream of becoming a professional dancer.

MOVING to the rhythm of her own beat is exactly what Talisa Cornwall is doing.

Her leadership skills not only led her to being selected as a prefect, but also as one of the Rhino Ambassadors, to raise awareness around the issue of rhino poaching.

And with a passion for dance, the Richards Bay High School matriculant is proving how worthy it is to never give up on a childhood dream.

Talisa’s love for dance started when she was four-years-old, and her love for the art form expanded as she grew older.

‘Dance allows me to express my feelings; it allows me to make a statement and tell a story.’

She was recently head-hunted at a local competition and was afforded the opportunity to attend the International Talent Showcase which takes place later this year.

The Miss Zululand 2015 finalist will also be auditioning for the Nedbank Scholarship in July, and hopes to pursue her dance career in Cape Town.

In between her busy schedule, she makes sure to prioritise her school work.

‘My family keep me focused and motivated. They strive to ensure I work hard, and constantly push me to my highest potential.

‘I have a good support structure which keeps me grounded,’ she said.

The self-confessed chips addict admits to having never placed her foot in the gym, but manages to burn those calories when doing what she loves – dance.

Talisa is launching her own entertainment and production company called, Flexipoint, and plans to design her own clothing range soon.

She advises the youth to remain focused and stay true to themselves.

‘Don’t ever change who you are. Never stop working towards reaching your dream because all dreams are achievable.

‘And listen to your parents,’ she adds.
