UPDATE: Armed guard survives robbery shooting

Armed guard recovers in Durban hospital after armed robbery in Empangeni.

THE armed response guard who was shot in the back of the head while responding to a robbery in the Empangeni CBD yesterday (Wednesday) morning, has survived.

Despite the seriousness of his injuries, the guard’s condition showed marked improvement after he was stabilised at Life Empangeni Garden Clinic and subsequently transferred by Meditrax Ambulance Service to Life Entabeni Hospital in Durban.

The guard, who works for Security 4 U, was responding to a panic alarm which had been activated by staff at New Goodwill Superstore in Biyela Road just after 8am.

The guard was undergoing treatment by a neurosurgeon yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon and was in a stable, but critical condition.
