AN eSikhaleni man has been living in terror for the past five years, claiming he is ‘bewitched’ by his ex-girlfriend from eManguza.
He says evil spirits started tormenting him after their break up in 2011.
Sthembiso Nyawo (28) alleges his two-room rental house is possessed, and mysterious flames regularly set his bed and belongings on fire.
He said the bed fires – as many as three times in one week – started after he began sleeping with his current girlfriend.
In addition, his clothes including shoes, caps and his security uniform, are often shredded.
‘The ordeal made me seek help from religious and traditional healers, but the supernatural flames continue to haunt my house weekly.
‘I’m terrified to sleep since the spirits have now began attacking my girlfriend.
‘During the night they regularly shave off her hair and cut our possessions into pieces,’ he told the Zululand Observer.
R10 000 paid out
‘I went to eManguzi to consult with an inyanga, who told me he can remove this muthi if I paid R10 000, but it never stopped.
‘I have tried various healers but these spooky events continue to terrify me,’ said Nyawo, who has also reported the matter to the police, but they could not help him.
‘I have now informed the chief in eManguzi because I’m scared it will finally kill me.’
His landlord and neighbour Goodman Kunene, said he was shocked when he witnessed the flames for the first time.
‘The fire came from nowhere and destroyed all his things. I cannot explain how it started because it was just strange.
‘Every week I see it happening to him, that’s why I moved him to a secluded two room house,’ said Kunene.
Other neighbours say they have witnessed the ghostly fire, and fear it will also affect them.
