Eco Junction traffic lights ‘urgent’

Bureaucracy delays potentially life saving traffic lights.

THE installation of traffic lights for the new intersection at the John Ross Parkway and Eco Junction is now a matter of urgency.

This according to vice chairman of Southern Africa Roads Federation Zululand, Mike Patterson.

‘The development has seen an increase in traffic during the building stages of Tangawizi Motors and the service station,’ said Patterson.

‘But since the opening of the garage, the traffic flow has indicated a need for the intersection to be controlled.’

Patterson emphasised these factors have left no doubt that the traffic lights should have been installed already, while planned and ongoing construction in the area would pose a continuous hazard for motorists.

Delayed

Reportedly, the traffic lights have been bought by the City of uMhlathuze and are currently in storage.

‘The delay appears to be due to Provincial Roads’ reluctance to issue the necessary approval to erect the traffic signals which have been allocated for this intersection,’ said Patterson.

‘The danger caused by slow moving vehicles crossing over the high speed traffic moving in both directions on the John Ross is very real,’ he said.

‘It needs attention before a serious incident occurs.’
