UPDATE: ‘Bush’ children now a ‘good news story’

Rescued toddlers safe and sound in Richards Bay home.

THE two young children who were placed into a local pastor’s care, after being found living in the bushes near the beach, are blossoming.

Already counting, playing with educational toys, going to church and settled into a routine, they are on the way to new horizons and eager to learn.

The children, aged 3 and 5, were removed by a social worker last week who, despite many obstacles, including lack of suitable places of safety, no available and screened foster parents and a broken vehicle, managed to secure their safety.

The pastor jokingly says they are the best behaved children in church, which is a challenge for even pastors’ kids.

‘They are stable and content at home, although asking continuously if they are going to stay there.

‘We are now focusing on letting them know that they have an extended family where they are loved and where they belong.

‘They are two gentle little souls and very reliant on each other.

‘They are getting used to healthy food and willing to eat almost anything, but only after saying ‘Amen’, which is how they refer to praying over a meal.

‘A kind local dentist checked them both up.

‘He was unable to mend some holes, because they are afraid of new situations, but there are no infections or pain, so we will deal with it in time.

‘A teacher, who had the eldest in her class for a while, was worried when he did not come to school anymore.

‘She contacted me after suspecting the child in our care may be the one she was so concerned about and was relieved to discover that it was.

‘She kindly offered assistance with learning and the possibility of him returning to school soon.’
