Zululander in continent’s top emerging women leaders

The 26-year-old who is a business partner at Barclays Africa was announced as one of the 26 successful candidates from over 3 000 applications from 44 countries.

NAMED among Africa’s most outstanding emerging women leaders, Canthar Ntuli of Kwambonambi will be heading for Ghana next month.

She will attend a three week intensive training programme after being selected as a Moremi Initiative Leadership and Empowerment Development (MILEAD) 2015 fellow.

The 26-year-old who is a business partner at Barclays Africa was announced as one of the 26 successful candidates from over 3 000 applications from 44 countries.

The programme is a uniquely designed initiative committed to long-term leadership development and promotion and the candidates go through a year-long training and mentorship programme.

She will be in Ghana from 12 July to 2 August attending workshops on pressing public issues and on her return will be required to implement a project in her community.

Canthar is passionate about education and hopes to support young girls in Richards Bay and help increase school attendance and promote quality education.

‘As a mentor I want to ‘Adopt a School’ in my community and have chosen my former school, Dlangezwa High.

‘I see my selection as a MILEAD fellow as a opportunity to build on my leadership and mentoring efforts,’ she said.

Canthar obtained her BCom in Financial Accounting from the University of Cape Town in 2010 and is planning for a Post Graduate Diploma in Financial Management at the University of South Africa (UNISA).

As a member of Lattice (Linking All Types of Teachers To International Cross-Cultural Education), an organisation created to encourage sharing of ideas between teachers and students across the globe, she was selected to participate in an exchange programme in Michigan, USA at the age of 10.
