UPDATE: KZN earth tremor originated in Gingindlovu

Martin Brandt a seismologist working for the Council of Geoscience in Pretoria gives update on KZN earth tremor.

THE tremor that was felt throughout Zululand and parts of Durban in the early hours of yesterday morning has been registered as a 3.1 magnitude quake.

This according to Martin Brandt a seismologist working for the Council of Geoscience in Pretoria.

‘Our systems picked it up at 5.21am on June 16, at a magnitude of 3.1. It originated just outside Gingindlovu,’ he said.

Brandt stressed the information was only preliminary confirmation, and more detailed analysis of the data would be required to give an exact reading.

KZN experienced a tremor in August last year, measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale.
