Tackling teen issues in schools

Teens highlight bullying, stealing, smoking and fighting as top concerns at school.

THE ripple effect of drug and alcohol abuse on families and the community came under the spotlight when uThungulu Cultural Centre (UCC) hosted an awareness campaign at Richards Bay Secondary School.

Speaking on abstaining from substance abuse, UCC representative Daniel Frank encouraged Grade 8 pupils to make the right choices and avoid experimentation with drugs and alcohol as they only have one life.

‘Life is like a stage for many dramatic events and it is very important what you do with it.

‘In some circumstances there is no second chance because just one fatal mistake can end your life.

‘You cannot blame others for the way our lives turn out, we have to take responsibility of ourselves,’ said Frank.

Other issues that came under discussion were bulling, fighting, truancy and theft of property at school.
