BREAKING NEWS: Earth tremor rocks KwaZulu-Natal

Did the earth move under your feet?

KWAZULU-Natal residents felt an earth tremor this morning at 5.23am.

Readers confirmed on the Zululand Obseserver Facebook page and Twitter that the tremor had been felt in Richards Bay, Empangeni, eShowe as well as Durban.

Barry Lane from Felixton reported ‘a rumble and then a crack, then quiet!’

Anne Lawrie said, ‘Port Durnford – loud, vigorous rattling of windows and doors that woke me and had our dogs barking nervously’.

Leonie Wood also heard a cracking sound, vibrating of windows. ‘Even my cats woke up and listened!’.

Barbara Andriena Du Plessis: Yes it woke me up in Eshowe at the same time. 2 ripples coming through .. Walls and windows shaking!

The tremor had not been recorded on the US Geological Survey (records earth quakes from around the world) as yet.

We will update you on the magnitude of the tremor as soon as possible.

 

KZN experienced a tremor in August last year, measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale.

A 3.7 magnitude tremor was recorded on the Gauteng’s West Rand in the early hours last Friday.
