Ministers to address local entrepreneurs

District hosts SMME fair at the University of Zululand City Campus.

LOCAL entrepreneurs can learn about business from the best at the uThungulu District Municipality’s Economic Development Symposium and SMME (small, medium and micro enterprises) Fair.

It takes place this Friday and Saturday at the University of Zululand City Campus.

Esteemed guests including the Minister of Small Business Development – Lindiwe Zulu, Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry – Mzwandile Masina and KZN MEC for Economic Development – Michael Mabuyakhulu will address guests at the symposium.

There will also be breakaway sessions to address various topics affecting Zululanders, including ‘Unleashing the agricultural potential of uThungulu’; ‘Arts, culture, heritage and tourism’; ‘Manufacturing and industrialisation’ and ‘Small Business Development’.

The two-day event will also include an exhibition area for both SMME cooperatives and stakeholders.

Opportunity

uThungulu District Economic Development Senior Manager, Njabulo Nzuza said it is a great opportunity for stakeholders to discuss serious issues negatively affecting their businesses.

‘This symposium is a response to government’s efforts to fast-track the implementation of the National, Provincial and District economic development plans,’ said Nzuza.

‘As a means of addressing the socio-economic development challenges faced by the communities throughout the district, a platform had to be created for a dialogue on critical local issues.

‘The first day of the symposium will allow for the breakaway commissions, whilst day two will allow for a coherent report back on the resolutions from the commissions.

‘This will be followed by an interactive panel discussion comprising Deputy Minister Masina, MEC Mabuyakhulu, uThungulu Deputy Mayor Cllr Thulani Mashaba and RBM GM Fundi Dlamini.’
