Guard survives armed robbery

Flying bullets grazed security guard's head.

A SECURITY guard and a young boy narrowly escaped with minor scratches after they were grazed by flying bullets during a business robbery in KwaDlangezwa on Monday.

Police said a group of men armed with AK47 forced entry into a bottle store in Vulindlela Township at 8.30am and sprayed the area with bullets.

The two surviving bystanders were in a clinic next to the bottle store.

The bullets hit the clinic’s wall, scratched the guard’s head and removed some of his hair.

The boy also had scratches on his body. They were both checked at the clinic and later released.

Perpetrators went away with about R130 000 in cash and an unknown quantity of cigarettes.

Later that night, a local supermarket was also targeted in the area.

According to the police, robbers entered Thatha Falaza building from the rear.

They apparently demolished the wall to gain access to the store and left with undisclosed cash.

Mtunzini police spokesperson Lieutenant Sbusiso Guma, said business robberies were on the increase.

‘This has become a concern and we appeal to the community to inform the police if they have any information regarding these incidents. We are determined to end this growing crime wave, ‘said Guma.
