Plans afoot for pre-school facilities in 2 rural areas

KwaDukuza Municipality focuses on pre-school education.

KWADUKUZA Municipality has unveiled plans of early childhood development facilities in two rural communities as part of the municipality’s support of human capital investments and community welfare.

KwaDukuza Mayor Ricardo Mthembu said the facilities will help correct the imbalances of the past.

‘This government in 2014, committed to work and make two years of pre-school education compulsory.

‘We are indeed providing the means to help improve academic achievements, reduce crime, poverty and enhance future labour market success.

‘Our efforts will culminate to a high return on human capital investment,’, he said at the launch.

He said this is part of the National Development Plan (NDP) which seeks to build high quality schooling education with literacy and numeracy at globally competitive standards.

‘The NDP requires that we make changes to provide access to resources. This includes the provision of adequate rural infrastructure.’

He said the government is in a process of formalizing pre-school education and will be working closely with the Department of Social Development to ensure that quality of pre-school education is up to acceptable standard.
