Creating human trafficking awareness…one step at a time

6 police officials walk from Durban to Johannesburg to create awareness for human trafficking.

SIX police officials, Colonel Danie Calitz and Captains Sharon Calitz, Gavin and Adele Bazley and Tienkie Janse van Vuuren, Constables Msihle Gumbi and Mduduzi Simelane of Zululand left Durban City Hall in a relay walk to Johannesburg.

The aim of the walk was to create awareness of human trafficking in South Africa and the rest of the world.

The six officials were part of a bigger team of walkers consisting of 16 SAPS walkers from KZN and 16 civilians from the Durban area.

The route was through the rural areas of the Drakensberg, Free State and Gauteng.

The team gave presentations to school children along the route.

After walking the 699km, the team crossed the finish line at Zinto marketing, in Marlboro Park in Johannesburg.

The Zululanders said that although the walk was very tough and they had a few blisters and lost toenails, it was rewarding to see that ‘Ubuntu’ is still alive and well in most parts of South Africa.
