Teen killed in bike smash
A 19-year-old bike passenger died after a motorbike crash in Arboretum.
A MOTORCYCLE passenger was tragically killed after a collision which took place on Sunday morning at around 5am.
Leon Engelbrecht (19) was travelling with his friend, Hein Dicks (18) up Via Cassiandra in Arboretum , when they crashed into an oncoming vehicle driven by a female who had just been coming off night shift.
Both youngsters were immediately taken to Netcare The Bay Hospital.
Engelbrecht was later transported to Ngwelezana Hospital, but passed away after allegedly sustaining severe injuries and suffering internal bleeding.
Dicks is reportedly recovering in hospital.
A case of reckless and negligent driving was opened at the Richards Bay police station in accordance with standard procedure, with further investigations underway.
