uMfolozi Municipality gets community input

uMfolozi Municipality embarks on community roadshows.

uMFOLOZI Municipality Mayor Cllr S Mgenge and his fellow councillors have engaged communities and stakeholders in their IDP / 2015 financial year.

During the roadshow they visited wards 1, 2, 4, and closed it on Wednesday by visiting Novunula Village under KwaMthethwa Tribal Authority in ward 13.

uMfolozi Municipality adopted a programme which will ensure all wards would be visited – whereby they ensured all community members are allowed to make inputs into the draft IDP/ Budget documents, as required by the legislature.

Mayor Cllr Smangaliso Mgenge said, ‘By visiting our communities we follow the legislature authority, which requires us to engage with the community in our development programmes.

‘The community put us in power, so we don’t want some members of our communities to feel left behind during our service delivery, but want them to make inputs as they are our bosses.’

Mgenge also revealed that with their IDP they will develop appropriate organisational structures.

‘The Integrated Development Plan is the process through which municipalities prepare a strategy extending for five years, which will have a direct impact on the lives of our community members.

‘It will formulate a clear vision, mission and value, and develop appropriate organisational structures and systems,’ said Mgenge.

From a budget of R165-million the municipality made allocations for poverty alleviation, local economic development, disaster fund, disability fund, mayoral project fund, youth skills funding, women empowerment, community bursaries, senior citizens, Salga games, the mayoral cup, forums, HIV/ Aids awareness campaigns, heritage activities, streetlights, publicity and public participation.

In total a budget of R15 767 500 was allocated for these programmes.
