It was revealed in evidence that Mdletshe threatened the young victim with a bush knife and forced her into the bushes before he assaulted and raped her.

Mdletshe was arrested and charged with rape and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. A case was opened at the eSikhaleni police station and transferred to the Empangeni Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.

His conviction came after an intensive investigation by the Empangeni FCS detective who worked tirelessly to apprehend the perpetrator.

KZN Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni welcomed the conviction and sentence.

‘We are very clear and direct about bringing all criminals to book and this should serve as a warning to would-be sexual predators that justice will take its course,’ she said.
