Kick off for Aquadene sport facility

New sport facility for Richards Bay suburb.

THE COMMUNITY of Aquadene has welcomed the opening of a new multi-sport court facility sponsored by SuperSport in partnership with the Department of Basic Education’s Schools Infrastructure Project, Hitachi Construction Machinery Southern Africa and Builders, a subsidiary of Massmart Holdings.

The new court at Aquadene Secondary School was unveiled on Friday and makes provision for various sporting codes, including a five-a-side soccer, netball, basketball, with an opportunity to include volleyball and tennis in a bid to drive the development of sport and healthy activities in and around the surrounding communities and schools.

The initiative is part of SuperSport’s flagship social responsibility programme, Let’s Play who’s primary objective is to reinforce the instruction of curriculum-oriented physical education and to promote physical activity in all schools.

SuperSport, which has a strong sporting influence within the South African market, identified that there are huge issues severely inhibiting the development of children through skills learned by playing, physical education and sport, all of which are imperative to the holistic development of children.

SuperSport’s Regulatory Director, Graham Abrahams said children are faced with many negative influences owing to a lack of social engagement and opportunities for play.

‘This sports facility can make a significant difference in lifestyle and behaviour change and provides both hope and purpose to the children of this community,’ he said.
