Northern Region Music Choral Competition, regional eliminations were held at eSikhaleni TVET College.

THE annual Northern Region Music Choral Competition, regional eliminations were held at eSikhaleni TVET College campus on Saturday, and the Zululand Observer was there to witness the event.

In the Sextet section uMfolozi College Choir took first place, while in the development section, Western Piece category Mtuba Choristers were placed first, Chome Choral Society took second and Harmonic Voices third.

Still in the development section, the African Piece category was dominated by Harmonic Voices, Chome Choral Society and Mtuba Choristers.

In the Intermediate section, Western Piece category St Joseph, representing the Zululand District took the honours with uMfolozi College Choir second, while in the African Piece category the tables were turned, and uMfolozi College Choir snatched the trophy, while their nemesis St Joseph Choir was second.

The soloists

In the soloists category, Gcinile Shabalala, soprano soloist representing Chome Choral Society won first place, while uMfolozi College Choir’s Nozipho Magwaza placed second and third place was taken by Nonkululeko Khumalo, also representing uMfolozi College Choir.

In the Tenor Solo section Thobani Nkosi representing St Joseph Choir took first position; in the Mezzo Soprano section Gcinile Shabalala took top honours with Nontobeko Mpanza second.

Big Bass boys were led by Senzo Funeka, with Linda Zikhali following and Talent Ntshangase third.

The winners of the competition will represent the region at the soon to be announced provincial eliminations, to be held at Madadeni, Newcastle.
