‘City Serial Rapist’ faces 126 years in jail

Jabulani Dlamini was sentenced in Mtubatuba High Court yesterday.

JABULANI Dlamini, the man dubbed the ‘City Serial Rapist’, was sentenced to 126 years behind bars in the Mtubatuba High Court on Thursday.

Dlamini’s sentence included six life terms for six rape charges, a further 15 years each for another seven rape charges, five years for another case of rape, five years each for two cases of theft, five years for robbery with aggravating circumstances, four years for sexual assault and two years for robbery. The sentences will run concurrently.

Most of Dlamini’s crimes were committed in Empangeni, Richards Bay and eSikhawini, with the final rape occurring in Harding where he was arrested.

Throughout his trial Dlamini maintained his innocence, accusing investigating officers of wrongful arrest and falsifying evidence.

Communications Officer at Empangeni SAPS, Captain Mdlalose, said, ‘We are very pleased with the heavy sentence. We hope it will serve as an example to others planning on committing these sorts of crimes’.

Mdlalose said the Empangeni Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) is doing all in its power to catch these criminals and are currently pursuing another sexual offender who is on the run.
