Unlicensed firearms recovered in KwaMsane

A joint operation between crime intelligence members and SAPS resulted in the recovery of unlicensed firearms and ammunition near Mtubatuba.

A JOINT operation between Empangeni Crime Intelligence members and the Rapid Raid Policing Unit on Thursday resulted in the recovery of unlicensed weapons and ammunition and the arrest of four suspects.

The raid took place in the oPhondweni area near KwaMsane in the early hours of the morning, during which the four suspects aged between 38 and 56 were found to be in possession of an AK47 assault rifle with two live rounds of ammunition, three Norinco pistols with 38 live rounds and a .38 revolver with five live rounds of ammunition.

The suspects were detained at the KwaMsane Police Station.

All four suspects appeared in the KwaMsane Magistrate’s Court on Friday, but the Public Prosecutor released them owing to anomalies on the docket. According to KwaMsane Communications Officer Captain Mdletshe, the arresting officers failed to read the suspects their rights at the time of arrest. @TamlynJolly
